0.2.4
Early alpha, Windows PC (DirectX 12)
Date -
New Features
- A new physics core for the whole flight: gravity from the Earth, Moon, Sun and planets, and the Earth's true shape and spin
- The day's wind from real Brownsville weather-balloon soundings, with gusts
- Propellant boil-off, tank pressure, sloshing and heating; the balance point shifts as the tanks drain
- Each Raptor started, shut down and throttled on its own (40% floor), with gimbal, RCS, flaps, grid fins and staging all through the real physics
- New keys: G stage separation, Alt+I/K, J/L and U/O RCS translation, N header tank feed, V tank vent, B propellant dump (held)
- The autopilot flies from the countdown to orbit as Flights 13 and 14 did: propellant loading, max-Q throttle-down, MECO, hot staging, the booster's flip and boostback
- The default orbital flight burns straight into a 275 km orbit, then deorbits to a North Pacific splashdown
- The default flight carries 26 Starlink V3 satellites, released in pairs
- Countdown and ascent voice calls from "go for launch" to MECO
- A new night sky: real stars in true colour and the Milky Way
Modified Features
- Vehicle masses and propellant loads match Flight 14's speed and fuel gauges
- Both Ship header tanks sit in the nose
- The pad clamps let go by themselves once the engines' thrust beats the stack's weight
- SAS flies with the RCS jets too, and holds the vehicle against the airflow with the engines off
- Touch the stick under autopilot and you take only the axes you steer; let go and the autopilot takes them back
- Readouts show what the vehicle's instruments measure; delta-v comes from the rocket equation
- The stream banner and mission control calls follow the flight: LIFTOFF, MAX-Q, MECO, HOT STAGING, SECO, ORBIT INSERTION, BOOSTBACK
- Updated Ship model and Pad 2 tower with matching chopsticks
- The payload door slides inside the bay like the real one
- RCS shows as straight gas jets; the propellant dump has its own effect
Bug Fixes
- Grid fins no longer lose grip around Mach 1
- The tower arms close on the vehicle instead of 3 m beside it
- An engine whose start fails shows as out everywhere
- Switching the autopilot off no longer cuts the engines
- The Roadster's jets and the tyre dust show as a white cloud instead of an orange ball
- Saves without a payload no longer bring an earlier flight's satellites into a start point
Known Issues
- The menu still shows 0.2.3 in this build
- The Ship's re-entry is being reworked: below about 30 km it falls faster than the real Ship
- Autopilot landings and tower catches are being rebuilt for the new physics and aren't finished in this build
